Large and In Charge!
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board
42 x 42 inch
Price: $3800
The story behind the painting: I discovered this barn while driving southeast of Denver, CO. The barn was so massive that I felt small compared to its enormity. Even though the barn is over 100 years old, the owners had just finished painting and fixing it up when I stumbled upon it that day. The structure is simple and defined. I wanted to capture the feeling of massiveness alongside the feeling of being “put together” that the barn seemed to exude.

The story behind the painting: This is a ranch near Elizabeth, CO. As I drove to the ranch, I really liked the way the sun was rising in the east. The ranchers were actually out before I got there. They were working hard and taking care of the cattle. The entire scene had the feeling of rising early and working the land. I could feel the sense of accomplishment they had from working their land to make their living.

I liked that feeling because I knew it was a place where I could be rejuvenated, recharged and reenergized.

Symphony No 8 in Full Color II
Mixed Media on Canvas
54 × 54 inch
Price: $3500
The Story Behind the Painting: Symphony No 8 is a four-movement symphony that Beethoven wrote in 1812. I thought, “What would it look like to have a symphony in color rather than musical notes?” This painting is really my journey into that place. It reflects joy, movement, fun; really lots of things taking place but at the same time it is full of harmony—just like a beautiful symphony.

The story behind the painting: I really liked the colors on this particular drive. It was in the mountains and it was beautiful. Yesterday's Today
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board36 × 48 inch
Price: $3800
The story behind the painting: I was way out in the country on a ranch in southern Colorado to look at a barn someone wanted me to paint as a commission piece. While driving from the home to the barn I looked way off to the side on a dirt road and saw this old set of wagon wheels. They seemed to appear suddenly, out in the middle of nowhere. In my mind’s eye, I pictured some of the old west and what it could have looked like but my physical eyes were taking in the beauty of the day. I was happy that I was getting to enjoy the wagon wheels of yesterday today.

Witnesses of Time ( Garden of the Gods)
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board
16 × 20 inch
Price: $1050
The Story Behind the Painting: These beautiful pillars are located in the Garden of the Gods, which is a state park in Colorado Springs, CO. The rock formations were created during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line. Archaeological evidence called petroglyphs shows that prehistoric people visited this place and that Native American tribes camped in the area. When I saw this beautiful scene, I couldn’t help but think about all the history it contained and how many “eyes” had witnessed this place’s history in some way or fashion. When I was painting this landscape, I wanted to communicate the many years of history that the place encompassed—almost like looking at the inside of a cut down tree and seeing the rings that showed the history and the passing of time.

Steamboat Barn
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board
34 × 34 in.
Price: $2500
The Story Behind the Painting: This is the iconic Arnold Barn that was built in 1928 in Steamboat Springs, CO. There is no doubt that when you visit the area, you are captivated by the sight of this historic building. I loved the angles and the physical structure of the building and wanted to convey that sense of purposeful arrangement in this painting.

Rugged
Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board
36 × 24 inch
Price: $2500
The story behind the painting: This was inspired by a trip to southern Colorado in the fall. The leaves had already fallen and the season was changing from fall to winter. I thought about how this single tree would make it through winter and be ready for the spring and I thought that it had to have a ruggedness to it in order to survive the harsh winter. It had grown by a small pool of water and I knew it had enough in it to survive anything that came along its way. It contained a ruggedness to it that each of us need to survive the seasons of life.
