Story Behind the Painting: I liked how these blooms seemed to dance across the countryside. There was a pattern within their randomness that I wanted to convey in this painting. Story Behind the Painting: I was out enjoying nature, taking in the beauty of the flowers, when my eye suddenly caught a butterfly I hadn’t noticed at first. There it was, moving gracefully from flower to flower, just as butterflies do. When I painted this piece, I wanted to emulate those same subtleties I was seeing: the beauty all around and the unexpected joy of noticing something even more beautiful.

Story Behind the Painting: This painting is more of a high-key painting, which means the values are lighter, rather than a lower-key painting, where the values are darker. The house structure is located at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in the Flint Hills of Kansas. When I saw this, it was a sunny day and very bright, but the sun wasn't so overpowering that it "blinded" my eyes. There was a softness to the light that I wanted to bring into this painting so that it quietly said everything that it needed to say.
