Fresh Off the Easel & Showings

Here are a few paintings fresh off the easel and some that are in a current show.

Beauty At Sunset

Beauty At Sunset

Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board

24 × 24 inch

Price: $2160

Story Behind the Painting: One mild spring night near my home in Parker, Colorado, I caught a view of a breathtaking sunset. Just moments before it appeared in full color, I glanced out the window and sensed that something beautiful was about to unfold. I quickly grabbed my camera, hoping to capture the moment as best as I could. As I looked through the lens, I immediately knew this was a scene I needed to paint. The sky came alive with rich colors and radiant light, filling the horizon with movement and energy that held my full attention. Standing there, taking it all in, I felt a deep sense of awe. When the moment finally passed, all I could say was, “That was beautiful!”

Song Of the Stream

Song Of the Stream

Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board

16 × 20 inch

Price: $1225

Story Behind the Painting: This painting was inspired by the beautiful streams in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. What first drew me to this particular stream was the fallen trees stretched across the water, forming a small dam that the current had to work its way through. The logs could not stop the water from its course. As I stood there, I could hear a variety of sounds from nature surrounding me, but it was the sound of the stream that drew them together into a cohesive melody—pleasant, soothing, and comforting. Even though the logs first drew me, it was the sounds that kept me. I wanted to capture that same musical ambiance in my painting—the melody I had experienced sitting there by the stream.

Natures Bouquet

Natures Bouquet

Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board

30 × 40 inch

Price: $4150 (framed)

Available at the Mark Arts Gallery, Wichita, KS (markartsks.com 316-634-2787)

Story Behind the Painting: The title for this painting came to me before any paint ever touched the canvas. When I first saw this group of sunflowers together, I liked how nature seemed to arrange these in its own way. Consequently, it was the natural arrangement and configuration of the sunflowers that inspired this painting. I felt like nature did it best, so it seemed obvious to title it "Nature's bouquet."

Quiet Abundance

Quiet Abundance

Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board

12 × 24 inch

Price: $1340 (framed)

Available at the Mark Arts Gallery, Wichita, KS (markartsks.com 316-634-2787)

Story Behind the Painting: I was enjoying a fall drive in southern Colorado when I saw these four horses grazing in the pasture. The sun felt good, and the atmosphere seemed right. It was simply a pleasant happenstance at the time. What captured my attention even more was the way the horses seemed to be enjoying all that grass. From their perspective, there appeared to be no lack of anything—their needs were fully met, and they were simply living in quiet abundance.

Light Within the Shadows

Light Within the Shadows

Oil & Mixed Media on Canvas over Board

36 x 48 inch

Price: $6000 (Framed)

Available at the Salina Art Center, Salina, KS (salinaartcenter.org 785-827-1431)

Story Behind the Painting: When I first saw these shadows across this open area, they seemed to tell a story, but I didn't know what story they were telling. All I knew was that the shadows were not dark or overwhelming in any way because light shone between them. It seemed like it was okay to be engulfed with these shadows. It wasn't scary because of the light nudging through. This mysterious dynamic moved me to paint this scene, and I wanted to encapsulate those same feelings in the painting.
