Plein Air Works

These paintings are from various plein air events. Plein air means painting done outside and on location. You will notice that they do not have my signature style with the “textured” edges. Each of these paintings come framed.

Picnic at the Lake

Picnic at the Lake

10 x 8 inch

Oil on Board

Price: $425

Story Behind the Painting: During the Superior Plein Air Event, I created this painting of Purple Lake in Superior, CO. The angles and the reflection on the water drew me to paint this scene. It was such a beautiful day, and as I was painting, I felt like I wanted to have a picnic and enjoy the vista even more. The colors further emphasize what I was feeling at the time—peaceful, relaxing, and simply enjoying the moment.

Early Morning at the House

Early Morning at the House

16 x 20 inch

Oil on Canvas over Board

Price: $1350 (includes frame)

Story Behind the Painting: This Opera House is a central building in Central City, CO. During my participation in the annual plein air event, I chose to paint this iconic building built in 1932, the fifth oldest professional opera house company in the country. I rose early one morning and saw how the light was gently sweeping across the front of the building. It felt like there was such promise in the future even though the Opera House had been around for over 90 years. I wanted to capture the feeling of something mature and has been around while at the same time appearing fresh and on the cusp of something new.

Teller House Windows

Teller House Windows

6 x 8 inch

Oil on Board

Price: $250 (includes frame)

Story Behind the Painting: During my participation in the Central City Plein Air Event, I walked past the historic hotel built in 1872 known as the Teller House. I noticed the shadows caused by the anchors near the windows where the shutters once were. Those narrow shadows next to the larger window pane shadows sweeping across the brick building inspired this painting. I loved the equalized uniformity, existing within variations and differences of each window and shadow.
